Rachel Lamoureaux and Olivia Loop – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity baseball team won their district championship game 5-1, Thursday at home against Sarasota High School. The star players were seniors Pablo Garabitos and Dylan Buck, and sophomore pitcher Matt Gelorme.

Freshman John Schroeder helped the team going 2 for 2 with a hit and a squeeze bunt, starting at first base. New members of the 2018 baseball team, Noe Antuna, John Schroeder, Gabe Silva, Brandon Plimley, Jordan Brown, Myles Kaitz, Zach Weston, Jacob Pipercic, and Nick Saraczak have all contributed for the Mustangs. The team is advancing to regionals for the first time since 2012. This is head coach Ryan Kennedy’s first district win.

Their first regional quarterfinal game is 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against St. Petersburg High.  The baseball playoffs are single elimination from this point forward. They play every Tuesday until they lose. State championship tournaments are scheduled from May 23 – June 2.

Assistant Coach Brett Holte said, “I believe that we will advance all the way to states. Our team is really good this year and I have a lot of confidence in them. Pablo Garabitos is pitching every game until the state final.

Freshman John Schroeder said, “I have had a pretty good season for my freshman year and I am excited for my first regional game.”
