Rachel Monroe – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS varsity softball team dove headfirst into regional playoff competition on Wednesday, winning 14-2 with a 5-inning run-rule over Pinellas Park.

Sophomore pitcher Brooklyn Lucero got the win and junior Kayla Howald closed it out with two strikeouts. The leading hitters were sophomore Payton Kinney, going three for four with a home run and three RBI’s, sophomore Avery Goelz going three for three, Lucero going three for four with a home run and four RBI’s, senior Kailey Christian and fresh Jillian Herbst, both going two for four.

Lucero said, “I’m proud of my team, there was a lot of energy in the dugout, and I was confident on the mound knowing my team had my back.”

In regional semifinals, the Mustangs will face East Lake High School. The game will start at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 at East Lake.
