Karen Rudd – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Several LRHS students were honored on April 19 at the
Congressional Art Competition awards ceremony at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. Congressman Vern Buchanan was present for the ceremony.
The winners included senior Kyla Rudd, sophomore Andy Zimmerman, junior Cat Kaiser, and senior Virgilio Lopez.
The congressional art competition occurs every year and is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives. The contest is only open to high school students and gives students the chance to have their art nationally recognized. The first-place winner gets their piece displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.
Rudd took part in this competition and scored the Facebook fan favorite award. Rudd won with 240 likes and 163 shares.
Rudd’s artwork will be displayed in Buchanan’s Washington. D.C. office for a year.
Rudd said, “This is the first time I’ve won anything in an art contest. I’m very thankful for my friends and family that helped me win.”
Zimmerman and Kaiser also took part in this contest. Their pieces will be displayed at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art education center for three months.
Lopez was awarded second place and will have his piece displayed at the education center.
