(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be the subject of a free workshop on Wednesday, May 2. The FAFSA supplies loans and grants to those students needing assistance paying for college. The workshop is for LRHS seniors and is from 8-10 a.m. in computer lab 603.

A parent must attend to complete the application, and free continental breakfast will be provided. Make sure to bring the following documents:

  • Social Security Number
  • Driver License Number
  • 2016 W-2 Forms
  • 2016 Federal Income Tax return
  • Current business and investment mortgage info.
  • Alien registration or permanent resident card (if you are not a US citizen.)

Guidance counselor Melissa Alter advised seniors who have not filled out the FAFSA yet to attend this workshop.

“It is very important that students go in and actually fill out the form correctly,” she said. “The students may have specific questions that the counselors will be able to give them specific answers to and make sure the correct information is used in the application.

She added, “If someone’s mother and father have just split, or they live on their own, they will be able to get the most money possible by going to this workshop and getting professional help.”

Seniors can use the top right corner of the form as their pass to leave class from their first and third period.
