(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Thursday, Apr. 26, the LRHS Mustangs varsity boy’s track team finished first at the FHSAA 4A Region 2 meet at George Jenkins High School in Lakeland.

Mustang athletes finished first in six of the 17 events.

Senior Andrew Dean finished first in the boys 800-meter run finals, while fellow Mustang junior Johnny Reid finished in a close second.

Junior James Rivera finished first in the boys 100-meter hurdles finals and 300 meters hurdles finals.

Senior Harry Barthelemy finished first in the boys’ long jump finals while senior Nick Napier finished first in the boys’ pole vault finals.

The Mustangs also finished first in the 4×800 meter relay finals.

Head coach Mark Napier said, “I was glad to see all of our runners go out and compete. It was a big day, and everyone did his or her part to help us win. Our goal is to win a State Championship and I think we can do that if we stay focused. I hope we can perform next weekend to help us reach our goal.”

“The meet was very successful, and we performed well when we needed to. We are looking forward to next weekend and hope to do just as well,” said Reid.

The Mustangs will head to Jacksonville next weekend to compete in the FHSAA Outdoor State Finals on May 4 and 5.

The boys are looking to win their first state track championship in school history.
