(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- This week the LRHS Latin club held an event called “Book in a Bag.”

“Book in a Bag” is an event that provides much needed resources to all children of all ages in the Sarasota County foster care system.

When children enter the foster care system, they are given only a black plastic trash bag for their possessions, and members of the “Bag Up the Love” project feel that is not right. This event was the Latin club’s way of working with “Bag Up the Love” to correct this injustice.

The club members put boxes around school buildings for students and staff to donate essential items such as books, backpacks, toiletry items, and school items.

Their goal was to get as many bags as possible for the adolescents. This year they reached out to companies who could potentially help this event and have been getting donations from the school.

The event organizer LRHS senior Emily Miller said, “The event will turn out well. No matter how many donations we get, we are still helping foster children feel better about their situation, and that is the most valuable part of this charity.”
