(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS’ Student Government Association (SGA) adviser Heather Kasper is starting a new leadership club known as Youth in Action (YIA).  The club’s purpose is to prevent drugs in school and to stop students from making destructive decisions.

This year’s theme for YIA is to prevent and end vaping.  With all the harmful effects that come with vaping, the club hopes to educate students of the negative effects and prevent the vaping that occurs.

Other YIA groups share the same intentions and focus on similar issues. According to the Youth In Action website, “YIA’s focus is on creating opportunities for youth to become their best selves, to address power imbalances that stifle the potential of poor youth and young people of color, and to create more caring and fair public institutions and systems.”

The next meeting for YIA will be held May 8 after school in Kasper’s room, 602. Interested students are encouraged to attend.
