Morgan Lingle – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last weekend the LRHS Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) participated in the Brooksville Orienteering State Championship and one group of cadets returned with a state title.
This meet started at 10 a.m. Saturday and the award ceremony started around 2 p.m. There were approximately 33 runners from LRHS.
The courses that the cadets had to run were longer and more challenging than ever, this tested the cadet’s ability to navigate.
The orange (intermediate) team placed third overall and the yellow (knaves) team placed won their state title.
Battalion Commander senior Bree Mazzella said, “The teams have done such a great time all season and the yellow team is going to do some great things next year. This was a great way to wrap up my senior year.”
JROTC instructor and Lt. Col. Richard Roller said, “Our student athletes have put hours of hard work and perseverance into their preparations and have seen the fruits of their labor. They have represented themselves, Army JROTC and LRHS very well throughout the entire school year.”
At each meet cadets earned point that went into state rankings. LRHS has some of the best runners.
The state ranking for yellow team is female Sofia Uribe, second, Kora Turner, third, D’Nasha Washington, fourth, and Hanna Ramsden, fifth. The state rankings for yellow team male are Devon Sapp, first, Bryan Reyes, fourth, Matt Hess, fifth, Matthew Williams, sixth, and Keyvon Anderson, eighth.
The state rankings for orange female is Elsa Fagulha, first, Carli Kasten, third, Harleigh Wickwire, fourth, and Emma Barnes, sixth. Male orange team rankings Corey Gonzales, fourth, Ethan Nicholls, fifth, and Baze McMichael, seventh.
The state rankings for green team female is Morgan Lingle, fifth and Kendyl Brahler, seventh. Male green team state rankings are Gino Navas, fifth, and Andrew Lim, eighth.
