The Golden Herald Award begin in 1978 to honor seniors in Manatee County for their service to their schools and community.

Rodriguez was thrilled to receive this award, “I was very excited when I heard that I had won. I put in a lot of time, but I love helping the community.

“I had over 350 hours of community service,” said Rodriguez. “I volunteered at a migrant camp for the first four weeks of the summer and was able to dedicate my time to helping kids with their school work and studies.”

Rodriguez added the Golden Herald application process was not an easy job, “Throughout applying for the position it was very competitive. I had to be top two in my school to just go for an interview with a panel of judges from the business community.”

To qualify, students must meet the requirements of a 3.0 GPA, have a community service project, and have multiple hours of community service.
