(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Manatee Admirals hockey team qualified last month for the national youth hockey championship tournament played at Plymouth, Minnesota.

The Admirals are members of the Tampa Bay area Lightning High School Hockey League, a  division of the
Statewide Amateur Hockey of  Florida (SAHOF) Association.  The Admirals feature many LRHS Mustangs.

In this year’s state championship tournament the Admirals out-scored their opponents 39-7 and posted two shutouts on the way to their title.

In Minnesota, however, they lost their first two games, 6-1 to the Colorado Monarch and 5-3 to the eventual national champions Sioux City Metros before defeating the Newark Generals 5-3.  The lone victory wasn’t enough to allow the Admirals to advance.

LRHS senior Cade Wessel said, “We had the toughest bracket and the two teams we lost to made it to the championship game. The experience was fun, I just wish we could’ve won.”

Senior Peter Morgan added, “It was an unreal experience, my senior year at the national tournament.”
