(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Thursday, April 5, LRHS HOSA went to Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center for the HOSA State Leadership Conference (SLC). Students competed in events, such as, medical spelling, dental terminology and medical innovation.

This SLC marked the 40th anniversary of HOSA, Future Health Professionals, making it a special conference for all the members.

LRHS sophomore Kara Smith said, “This was my first SLC and I had a really fun time. I was able to hang out with my friends and created a bunch of memories.”

To qualify for International Leadership Conference, students had to place in the top three in their events. LRHS sophomore Derek Breiner placed first in Medical Spelling and will attend ILC in Dallas, TX.

“It came down to me and another competitor and it was super stressful and intimidating,” said Breiner, “but I was able to somehow beat him. I’m super excited to go to Texas.”
