Rachel Monroe – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- My team erupted in applause as I crossed home plate. I remember every step around the bases…after all, I’d just hit my first varsity home run as an LRHS Mustang.
When I was on deck I was thinking “base hit” and waiting for the right pitch to hit. It was Monday evening, an away game at North Port High School in the third inning that I was up to bat with two outs and runners on first and second. The pitcher threw it right down the middle, with the perfect timing I waited back and crushed the ball. My batting average for the season as of now is .750.
It was a surreal experience and memorable moment as my first year on varsity. The final score of the game was 14-1. This now makes our record 10-1. I’m so lucky to be a part of this team and I am looking forward to making more memories with them.
