(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Lady Mustangs varsity softball team is ranked first overall in the state of Florida. Under first year head coach T.J. Goelz, the Lady Mustangs have started the season 10-1.

After an impressive weekend at the Champions Invitational Tournament in Jacksonville, the Ladies rolled past the former number one team Oak Leaf to claim the number one spot in Class 8A.

Junior Maddie Koczersut said, “Being ranked number one in the state is an exhilarating feeling and I am so proud of all the girls and all the hard work we have done so far.”

“Just because we are ranked number one does not mean we will try any less. I am very excited to see what happens at the end of the season,” Koczersut added.

Fellow softball player senior Madi Locastro said, “Although we are ranked number one in the state, it doesn’t matter what we are now, it matters what we are ranked at the end of the season.”

The Lady Mustangs’ next game is Thursday at 7 p.m. against Sarasota here at LRHS.
