(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS junior varsity (JV) track team will compete in the County Championships at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at Palmetto High School.

The field events begin at 4:30 p.m. and the running events will start at 5 p.m.

LRHS science teacher and track coach Mark Napier has mixed feelings about tonight’s meet.

“We have a lot of good jumpers and newcomers that could become great athletes with more practice,” said Napier. “But there are a lot of bodies. I didn’t load my best athletes up on the same events; I spread them out to introduce everyone to all the different events.”

Sophomore Regan Brahler is a part of the JV track team. She competes in the 200-meter dash and hurdles.

“I’m really excited for this meet because I’m trying something new tonight,” said Brahler. “I honestly don’t think that I’ll do that well. It’s my first year doing track and I’m not the fastest out there, but I know that this is just the start and I hope to improve.”

The next varsity track meet is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at IMG Academy.

“It’s a much larger meet with much more experienced athletes,” commented Napier. “The younger athletes aren’t ready for that level of competition.”
