(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last Friday the LRHS dual enrollment United States history classes took a field trip to downtown Sarasota.

The focus of this trip was to observe architecture in the area from the period the classes are studying.  Over 50 Mustangs participated in the trip.

Junior Mikaela Campbell said, “We walked around downtown Sarasota and saw a lot of historical buildings.  I thought it was cool that those building are still around.”

Dual Enrolled US history teacher Tom Honsa said the field trip is a chance for students to connect with their local heritage.

“This area was very much affected by the 1920s Florida land boom, and Sarasota was a part of that,” he said.  “The walking field trip is a chance for students to literally follow in the footsteps of people of the past who helped build this community.”
