(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – A track and field school record was broken over the weekend as junior James Rivera broke the 300-meter hurdle record at the Charlotte Invitational.

Rivera won his race by almost two seconds, running a time of 40.22 seconds. LRHS alumni Michael Petruzzi was the previous record holder from 2016.

Rivera was very excited about the result of the race, along with what is to come.

“I was really happy with my time right when I saw it and it’s been a goal of mine ever since I started doing the hurdles,” he said. “I started the hurdles this season and am excited with my progress and to see how I’ll do in future meets.”

While he was very excited about the record, he is still focused on his overall goals for the season, “I want to get down to 38 seconds and place in the top five at states this year.”
