Prom a time for fun, not stress

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- As prom grows nearer, the expectations of what is supposed to be a magical night grow greater.

With the influence of social media, prom can become a chance to showcase extravagance. Over the top “promposals,” expensive dresses, limos, and more can have the night feeling as it’s just too much before students even get to the dance. The added pressure of knowing there will be cameras flashing and hundreds of people can sometimes take away from the focus of the night, which should be to have fun.

LRHS senior Ameliabelle Dasovitch said, “I feel like prom is more extravagant in media then in reality. It has an atmosphere of royalty, when really it’s just a dance you can have fun at and you don’t have to go all out to have a good time.”

It’s inevitable that people will be caught in traffic, spill drinks on their dress, or turn around for forgotten tickets, but in the end, the purpose of prom is to have a night of fun.

Administration would like to remind students that dress code will be strictly enforced.
