Mustangs race to the front in quad meet

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – One week after opening the season at George Jenkins, the LRHS varsity track and field team traveled to Charlotte High School to compete in the Charlotte Quad meet.

Four teams compete in the meet each year, with this year being LRHS, Charlotte, Manatee and Palmetto Ridge.

Both teams were very successful and took first place in many events. The girls were victorious in seven different events.

Senior Karen Lyvers won the pole vault and 300-meter hurdles. Senior Shay Lee won the 200 and 400-meter races. Sophomore Madeline McNinch won the 100-meter dash and freshman Riley Bradshaw won the 800-meter run.

The boys were even more successful, winning eight events.

Junior James Rivera won the 300-meter hurdles and senior Harry Barthelemy won the high jump. Senior Drew Butler won the triple jump and senior Nicholas Napier won the pole-vault. Junior Johnny Reid won the 400 and 800-meter-run and junior Eric Williams won the discus.

Both boys and girls 4×400 meter relay teams also won their races.

The next varsity meet is a home meet this Saturday, Mar. 3.
