McKenzie Mazzella – Mustangs Ahead

(Lakewood Ranch, FL) – Last weekend the Junior Reserved Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program participated at the T. Mabry Carlton orienteering meet in Sarasota.

This was JROTC’s last meet before the Suncoast State Championship, slated for Alafia, Florida. Orienteering is a competitive sport in which participants find their way to various checkpoints across rough country with the aid of a map and compass, the winner being the one with the lowest elapsed time.

LRHS took home first overall, sweeping the competition in the Yellow female and male and Orange female divisions. They took home first in yellow, second in orange, and third in green.

Mustang senior command sergeant major Elsa Fagulha is excited, “A lot of our slower runners are not only getting faster but figuring out how to navigate, I am excited to see how we do.”
