(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS boys basketball team’s season came to an end with Thursday’s regional 64-61 overtime loss to Riverdale High. The score was 61-61 going into overtime before an enthusiastic crowd.

In the first half the Mustangs didn’t come off strong offensively. In most of the first three quarters, they faced a 10-point deficit. Mustang senior star Damien Gordon didn’t play because of a back injury, it was a major setback for the team.

Gordon was district Most Valuable Player.

The Mustangs fought back in the fourth quarter and senior Jack Kelly had a putback dunk with one second left which sent the game into overtime.

Coach Jeremy Schiller told HT preps, “At the end of the day, these things happen… I wish I could have done something for our seniors because I feel they deserve it. And I told them I take responsibility.”

Schiller said seniors Gordon, Kelly, Evan Spiller and Andrew Dean had a great overall high school season.

The players are disappointed after their loss, but junior Dylan Wellard said, “We accomplished many goals throughout our season and the best part about it was having fun.”
