(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The 2018 LRHS track and field varsity season is officially off and running. The boys and girls teams traveled to George Jenkins High School in Lakeland to compete this past Saturday, Feb. 17.

Both teams placed fourth overall as Steinbrenner took the girls title and George Jenkins took first for the boys.

The girls were led by seniors Shay Lee and Karen Lyvers and sophomore Ava Klein.

Lee placed third in the 800-meter run and seventh in the 1600 meter run while Lyvers was the outright winner in the pole vault, vaulting 11 feet. Klein placed third in the 400 meters and seventh in the 200 meters.

On the boys side, they were led by seniors Harry Barthelemy and Nick Napier, along with junior Johnny Reid.

Barthelemy set a school record in the high jump, jumping six feet, five and one-half inches while placing second. Napier took the win in the pole vault and Reid placed second in the 1600-meter run.

After his 3200-meter race, senior Kyle Wray said, “It’s good to see where I’m at for the beginning of the season and now I know what I need to work on as well.”

The next varsity meet will take place this Friday, Feb. 23 at Charlotte High School.
