Robotics no longer requires prerequisites

(LAKEWOOD RANCH FL)- LRHS teacher Ben Long has dropped the robotics prerequisite.  He is removing the prerequisite of having engineering 1, so now anyone can take it. Long wants more people to join the robotics program so that he can build a stronger foundation and give Mustangs he opportunity to be more valuable in the future.

Long has one main goal this year, “I want to be able to specialize in one area because it is so broad, I want to be more successful in our (robotics) championship meets and have a bigger world championship caliber.”

He currently has one robotics team in robotics 1. He has had students advance to the world championships. He wants to have three sections next year, so he can have a full set of four potential championship teams.

Next year, Long expects growth and exposure for the robotics program. There are currently 24 students in one class, and he is hoping to expand to 64 students minimum with three classes.  Check out the 2018-19 curriculum guide for more information about the LRHS robotics program.
