(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- This past weekend, LRHS’s Speech and Debate club competed at Southeast High School to earn points to qualify for their regional competition, which is scheduled for Feb. 23 -24.

Before Speech and Debate regionals, LRHS attended four competitions for members to earn points. This past weekend, there was three competitors, two that competed in public forum debate and earned 18 points toward their regional competition eligibility.

LRHS speech and debate adviser and English teacher Amanda Hargen said, “I am really happy that our team was able to compete in this event, I feel it was a really good experience, especially for our public forum debaters, who were able to compete using the February topic.”

Sophomore Jake Hanson was unable to attend this event but has enjoyed previous ones.

“At the last competition, my event was Oratorical Declamation, which is where you memorize a speech written by someone else and perform it in front of your peers and a panel of judges,” he said. “I had a really good time, and it was a really good experience. I learned a lot about speaking in front of people.”
