Mustangs bumped out of boys soccer playoffs

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Wednesday night the LRHS boys’ varsity soccer season ended against Wesley Chapel in the region semifinals. This game took place on LRHS fields.

The LRHS boys put in the 100 percent, but with the Mustang’s high scoring senior Pablo Vargas injured from last week’s game their efforts were just not enough.

The final score of the game was 2-1.

“Could have been 2-1 us or 2-1 them,” LRHS coach Vito Bavaro told Htpreps.

“We played with heart, not skill,” said senior Aystin Martinez. “It was definitely a tough 2-1 loss.”

Junior Travis Freeman had the ball in second half, after a little bit of fight with an opposing midfielder, Freeman kicked a 25-yard shot right into the net making it a tie game.

“I’m proud of the boys,” Bavaro added. “It is not an easy road to states. Getting there last year was a huge accomplishment for us, we lose Pablo and a couple midfielders, but most of the defense comes back along with Ryan Freeman in goal. We are bringing back a strong team as well. The future is bright for us.”
