(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS softball has started up again for the 2018 season, and the girls will try to make it past regional finals and advance to states. Former assistant coach TJ Oakes has been promoted to head coach.

The Lady Mustangs have been invited to play in several big tournaments this varsity season. Last year at the Kissimmee Classic, varsity placed third and have been invited back. Varsity has two preseasons games, one at 5 p.m.  against Mckeel Academy and one at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 against Bartow. These games will be taking place at Bartow High School.

Their first regulation game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Feb. 15 against North Port High School at home.

Oakes explained his goal for the upcoming season, “New year, new goals, same goal.”

Oakes said it’s a new year to get back to where they left off and continue to move past regionals to advance to states.

Sophomore Taylor Woodring added, “I think varsity is going to have another good season with only four losses this year. We hope to make it to states as well as being nationally ranked again.”
