(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last Friday, the LRHS boys’ varsity soccer team won the district championship game against the Riverview Rams 3-2. With this win the Mustangs won their sixth straight district championship.

LRHS junior Alex Thompson said, “The district title was really cool. We won a sixth straight title which was a good thing for the program.”

Thompson also said, “It was a good challenge for us as it was at one point one to one, but our team showed a lot of character which should help us going into regionals and maybe even a run at a state championship.”

Coach Vito Bavaro commented on the victory over Riverview.

“Overall it was a great victory for Lakewood Ranch High,” he said. “The guys played their heart out and we look forward to playing Wiregrass on Wednesday.”

The Mustangs’ (21-1-4) next game will be the regional quarterfinals 7 p.m. at home Wednesday against Wesley Chapel Wiregrass (24-4-1).
