(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – For each athletic season that occurs throughout the school year, the Florida High School Athletic Assocation (FHSAA) releases the Grade Point Average (GPA) for each team, ranking schools all around Florida.

The LRHS boys cross-country team was ranked first place among Class 4A Schools with an average GPA of 3.802, while the LRHS girls cross-country team, also in Class 4A, was ranked 12th with an average of  3.672.

As far as the other Mustang teams, football came in second place in class 7A with a 3.332 average and golf fourth place in class 3A with a 3.705

Outgoing head football coach Mick Koczersut said his practices recognized the importance of classwork.

“I purposely don’t start football practice until 3 p.m., so the players are able to get ahold of teachers and have a study hall for 30-45 minutes,” he said. “I care about their GPA and so do they.”

Girls golf placed seventh with a 3.728 GPA, boys swimming 16th with a 3.388 GPA, girls swimming 11th at 3.567  and girls volleyball fifth with a 3.589.

LRHS athletes look forward to being able to raise their GPA averages and to continue excelling in games and in the classroom.
