(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)-  LRHS Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) traveled to McNeal Elementary School to work with the kindergarten and first grade students after school Thursday, Jan. 25.  This community service project was one of many opportunities presented to members.

Mustangs spent many hours in preparation throughout the weeks of December and January to make it happen. Sophomore Anna Shelby Dees went to McNeal Elementary.

“The kids were so wonderful and cute,” she said.  “I love that we got to do this and I would like to do it again in the future.”

SADD provided the elementary students paper squares and instructed to draw whatever makes them happy, what they like to do with their friends, or anything they wanted to draw.  The kids were very creative, with drawings ranging from flowers to going to a basketball game.

For around an hour, the LRHS and McNeal students talked about their lives and had fun drawing with each other.

Dees added, “My favorite part of the whole experience was the conversations I had with the students.  I got to understand their lives and what they like to do at their age.  The worries I have now do not even equivalate to theirs.  All they are concerned with is having fun.  That day allowed me to be like one of them again and explore my creative side.”

Sophomore Sarah Limexant said, “I love that I was able to participate in this since I am a part of SADD.

“The experience allowed me to have fun with the kids and work with more SADD members at the same time.”
