(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last weekend, LRHS’ Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) hosted its annual Winter Formal.

The Winter Formal is a mini-version of the county military ball, held in Sarasota with all of the other schools in the county.  This is the third consicutie year JROTC has put on a Winter Formal.

The Winter Formal took place at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.

The receiving line started at 6 p.m. as cadets formally introduced themselves and their dates to the senior commander and honored guests. Next, the ceremony started and toasts were given, fallen comrades were remembered, and honored guests were recognized for their support of the Mustang Battalion at LRHS.

The ceremony was followed by dinner and dessert, and then dancing began at 8 p.m. and went on until 11 p.m.

Senior Morgan Lingle said, “The Winter Formal went better than we expected. It was a lot of planning, but it paid off in the long run. It looked like all of the cadets had a lot of fun.”

Every year cadets vote on a teacher and administrator of the year. This year’s teacher of the year was teacher’s assistant Elijah Weaver and administrator of the year was dean Jake Sponsel.
