(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- After the Mustang boys 56-25 basketball win over rival Braden River on Jan. 19, the varsity team was ranked 435th in the nation, placing them in the top two-percent of high school teams across the nation.

The Mustangs are 16-4 overall, and 5-0 in district games. Three of the boys’ four losses have been to teams ranked ahead of them in the nation. Sophomore Keon Buckley said, “It’s cool to be ranked so high in the nation. We’ve worked so hard and it’s great to see us get credit for it. I think when we go out and play hard, no one can beat us.”

The Mustangs are tearing it up on the court, riding a six-game win streak. Junior Brady Roberts said, “The team has been playing well recently, and you can see the growth and maturity of our team. Our defensive intensity has increased tremendously which is leading to better offense and is helping us win games.”

Coach Jeremy Schiller said he’s understandably pleased with the team’s recent success.

“Being ranked in the top two-percent in the nation is a big accomplishment and I’m proud to see our boys get here,” he said. “When we play with intensity, we win games. The guys have done a great job of starting and finishing games strong.”

The boys will take their recent success to Sarasota this Friday, Jan. 26 to battle it out against the Sailors. The Mustangs won the first meeting between these two, 65-37 here at LRHS. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
