(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS students now have the opportunity to apply for the Young Scholars Summer Program.

The Young Scholars program is an all-expense paid, six-week summer program where students get the chance to stay at Florida State University in order to further advance their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

This program was designed for hard-working students who have the potential to work in one of the STEM fields. Juniors and exceptionally talented sophomores may be eligible to sign up.

LRHS college coordinator and advisor Michelle Todoroff said, “Students can absolutely benefit from the Young Scholars Program because it will give them the opportunity to spend time at Florida State University, they will make contacts, they will hopefully get enriched with education, and they will benefit when they got to apply for college because there is a place in the college application that asks if you were involved in any type of educational programs.”

According to the Young Scholars website, students must have a 3.0 GPA, have received a score in the 90th percentile in math or a nationally standardized exam, be enrolled in or have completed Pre-Calculus, be able to commit for the entire six-week program, and maintain a permanent residence in Florida.

Applications for this program are available on The Young Scholars Website and will be due Feb. 15.
