(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Tuesday Jan. 16, the LRHS boys’ varsity soccer team experienced their first loss of the season against Tampa Jesuit 4-2.

LRHS junior Travis Freeman said, “I expect our team to use the feeling we had after losing last game and play with more effort and intensity. I think we’ll play with a chip on our shoulder and hopefully return to being in top form.”

Junior Alex Thompson agreed with Freeman, “I think we needed a loss to refocus ourselves and get back into a rhythm. I think after winning a lot of games we became a little lazy and didn’t take it as serious, but we were shown last game that nothing is guaranteed for this year and we have to work for it. I think that we as a team will show that in our game tonight.”

The Mustangs current record is 14-1. They look to improve Thursday night at the North Port Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. North Port will be a non-district opponent and has a record of 6-9.

LRHS head varsity soccer coach Vito Bavaro said, “I’m hoping to see a little bit of retribution and see that we need to play harder every game. We can’t take any team lightly. Hopefully this loss with give us a kickstart for districts and states.”

Bavaro added, “Sometimes you learn more from a loss than a win.”
