Julianna Catena – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs are getting ready to meet LRHS attendance clerk Kari Babcock. She replaced Leota Walker in the attendance office.
Mustangs Ahead (MA): Where are you from?
Babcock: I’m actually from Canada. I moved down here recently. I’m a military brat so I’ve kind of lived everywhere and I married a Canadian, so I moved up there and then back down here to Florida.
MA: Where did you go to college?
Babcock: I went to Western Kentucky University.
MA: What made you want to work at LRHS?
Babcock: I wanted to work for a community. I used to work at a ballet school up in Canada so I wanted an environment quite similar to that and I ended up here.
MA: Do you like it here so far?
Babcock: Yeah. I like it a lot.
MA: Any big challenges?
Babcock: Just the number of students that we handle at a certain point in the day. We have a really busy period of time and then it goes quiet for a bit and back and forth between the two.
MA: Best thing about LRHS?
Babcock: The people and the students.
MA: Anything you hope to accomplish?
Babcock: To get used to the position and getting more involved with more people here.
MA: Do you have any kids?
Babcock: Yes, I have one. His name is Noah and he just turned two years old in December.
MA: What did you do before this?
Babcock: Before this, I was a registrar at a ballet school in Canada.
MA: Reactions towards your first week?
Babcock: My reactions are that it is actually more relaxing than before, it’s less stressful, but I was actually very surprised at how big the school is. I have never worked at a school this big, so I was kind of shocked in that sense. My high school was very small, the graduation class was only 123 kids. So, I literally knew everyone in my old high school. It makes quite the difference.
