Adina Mayo – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS biology teacher and HOSA adviser Maria Whalen has withdrawn from the club for personal issues. The LRHS HOSA chapter was unsure of what to do and how to keep going without an adviser to make arrangements and complete conference and club registrations.
LRHS Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE), however, has stepped in to help the chapter.
Lidey said, “I’ve worked with Whalen and I’m willing to do whatever is needed to help our HOSA students be successful.”
However, she was nervous to take on such an important responsibility.
“It was a bit overwhelming and I felt a little anxiety coming in but, once I saw how awesome and on-the-ball [the HOSA officers] were, I was happy to be there,” said Lidey.
As a cancer survivor, Lidey has a unique outlook on HOSA and its members.
“[HOSA students] are absolutely the future of medicine. Their drive is key,” commented Lidey.
Although Whalen is currently back at school, Lidey is helping the chapter for the remainder of the year and wants to help make the transition as smooth as possible.
