(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) participated in the Adopt a Family program this year. Each holiday season the Salvation Army holds this fundraiser to collect gifts for children ages 12 and under.

FCA adopted a family with three boys; ages four, six, and ten years old. Members have donated many items including clothing, shoes, toys, outdoor recreational goods, and art supplies for the boys.

FCA adviser and LRHS social studies teacher Samantha Stoltz shared, “It was a huge success, we were able to provide gifts for all of the kids involved.” FCA plans to participate in the program again next year.

LRHS Key Club and art collaboration class also contributed to this cause. Key Club adviser and LRHS art teacher Terry Thomspon organized the drive for her club.

The clubs were able to collect items for nine children. Each child was able to receive an outfit and two gifts from their Christmas wish list.

“I’ve been doing it for over 25 years,” shared Stoltz.

Stoltz added, “It is a wonderful program that assists the low-income families of Manatee County. When I first began donating it involved both children and adults, but over the years the program has begun to focus more on children’s presents.”
