(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)-  The LRHS Future Farmers of America (FFA) swept through their sub-district competition on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Sub-Districts is the first competition to determine who will move on to the next round in their competition category. Whoever places first in each category moves on to the next round.

LRHS senior Coy Godwin is just one among the several winners at sub-districts. Godwin has competed in the tractor-driving contest for several years.

Tractor driving requires many hours of practicing safety, proper care, and operation of the tractor provided at the contest. “It is always a fun time at sub-districts, I like being able to compete against others and I can’t wait to move on,” said Godwin.

Senior Isabelle Chamness competed in prepared public speaking. “Prepared public speaking requires preparing a speech on a given topic; in this case it was forest fires. Afterwards judges will ask you a series of questions about your topic,” said Chamness.

Anyone interested in joining FFA can visit room 913 and see advisor Janyel Taylor.
