(LAKEWOOD RANCH)- This past week the LRHS girls’ basketball team had four games, posting a 3-1 record for the week.

The first game was Monday against Riverview High School at Riverview. The Mustangs won 43-40. Senior Kayla Bell said that they started off rough but battled their way back to beat the Rams. Coach Melanie Johnson said, “They didn’t want to lose so they fought back.”

The second game was Tuesday against Venice at home and LRHS won 50-10. Junior Kaitlin Bell stated, “It is one of the most focused games we have had.”

Head coach Melanie Johnson also reflected on the game, stating, “They focused on what they had to do and that’s why we met our goal.”

The third game was Thursday at Manatee High School, a 56-12 LRHS win. Senior Emma Fazio said, “We communicated more and learned how to work together as a team.”

The fourth and final game of the week was on Saturday against St. Petersburg Lakewood High School.  The Mustangs lost 66-26.

“We didn’t communicate as a team and got really frustrated with each other and frustration doesn’t go good while playing basketball,” said senior India Searls. Sarah Fazio also said they didn’t do what they were supposed to do when it counted and it cost them.

After a long week for the girls they have another four games this week. They are all away:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Sarasota
  • Thursday, Dec. 14 at Palmetto
  • Friday, Dec. 15 at Noth Port
  • Saturday, Dec. 16 at Brooks Debartolo
