Lily Osborne – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – New and chilly weather has reached LRHS this week, and two new organizations are coming with it. The band program is adding Lakewood Ranch Scholastic Indoor Performance (LRSIP) Guard and Percussion ensembles to its wide variety of groups.
Both the LRSIP Guard and Percussion units are unlike anything that LRHS has seen previously. These two groups will put together performances that incorporate music and visuals, and both will compete in the 2017-18 Florida Federation of Color Guards Circuit season.
The LRSIP Guard and Percussion groups are independent from each other. The Guard group will incorporate dance, flag, and weapon features. Any students that have experience in Color Guard or dance are highly encouraged to audition.
The Percussion group includes both Percussion and a Visual Ensemble (VE). Both the groups work together to portray the show’s meaning. The Percussion section will perform and play the music while the VE is a significant aid to the visual aspect of the performance.
Both groups offer substantial opportunities to help members grow as performers. They practice every Tuesday and Thursday with competitions and camps on certain Saturdays.
Freshman Elise Sunderman is planning to audition for the LRSIP Guard.
“I just finished my second year of being in the Color Guard for the Marching Mustangs,” she said, “and this new indoor group is going to be so unlike what I’ve already done- I can’t wait.”
Both LRSIP units are having auditions from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12. Students interested in partaking in either group should come to the auditions with a lunch prepared and proper practice clothing.
These groups are not limited to LRHS students. Students from other Manatee County schools that do not already offer indoor programs are welcome to join.
