(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- As the first semester ends, students are beginning to plan their second semesters. LRHS sophomore Tayla Rosenthal plans to study abroad starting in January.

Rosenthal will study in Israel from January until June. Rosenthal said her best friend from California also plans to attend. Her travels will start in Poland and continue with 26 other students.  Her travels include field trips.

Rosenthal stated that she found out about this trip through the program of Heller High School, a Jewish high school. In this program, she will have to travel around with a group of Jewish students from all over.

Some of the places they will attend on their trip will consist of a week in Poland to visit Holocaust concentration camps, three days in the Negev desert, and a hike from the Kinnert Sea to the Mediterranean.

Along with all of Rosenthal’s travels comes studying. Not only will she have to concentrate on finishing all of her regular core classes from LRHS, she will also be required to take a Jewish history class and a Hebrew upland class.

“One other thing that I am required to do on my trip is to participate in Israel army training. It comes along with all the studying and traveling I will be doing,” Rosenthal added.

As the second semester quickly approaches, Rosenthal continues to pack and get ready to leave.

“There is so much here that I will miss when I am gone, but I am so excited to have the chance to do this, and look forward to having many stories to share when I come back,” said Rosenthal.
