(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) club held a phone-a-thon on Nov. 21 after school.

A phone-a-thon was held for the United Nation’s Universal Children’s Day.  It’s celebrated on Nov. 20 each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.

The students contacted Florida representatives and senators. The offices of Representative Vern Buchanan, Senator Bill Nelson and Senator Marco Rubio were contacted to talk about UNICEF’s impact on children globally.

LRHS UNICEF club wanted the officials to support the $132.5 million for UNICEF as they finalize the Omnibus Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2018 in the weeks ahead.

One in four children globally face Severe Acute Malnutrition. It threatens millions of children worldwide, and takes the lives of roughly one million each year.

With the money given to support UNICEF, they will fight malnutrition and save countless lives throughout the world, this year.
