The young elementary students went to three different stations including story telling, where volunteers put on a Christmas skit, kickball, and cookie decorating. The kids also enjoyed playing tag and duck-duck-goose with the volunteers.

“Project Daughtry is my favorite event that Lakewood Leaders organizes. It is special for me as I have attended all four years and I adore the kids we get to work with and serve,” said senior and public relations officer Chelsea Petruzzi.

LRHS career and college adviser Michelle Todoroff started the Daughtrey program five years ago to support some of the economically disadvantaged students of Manatee County. Lakewood Leaders prepared an individual goodie-bag with socks, a toothbrush, toothpaste, toys, coloring books, stickers, and a candy cane for each student.

Sophomore Abby Price volunteered for her second time and shared, “The Daughtrey students were incredibly grateful, one kindergartner even asked me if we could all stay at their school forever. It was amazing to see how such a small thing made all of the little 5-year old’s day. I hope I get the opportunity to volunteer again next year.”
