Angelina Ortiz – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Swim Team held its annual end of season banquet Dec. 3 to celebrate the successful 2017 season.
The Mustangs Swimmers gathered for the last time this year to recognize swimmers who earned varsity letters, swimmers who placed at any of the championship meets, and the swimmers who went above and beyond with their contributions to the team. Coaches Julie Santiago and Kyle Steinberg also took the time to thank the parents and other family members who made contributions to the team this season.
Team members used the event to reflect on their successful season.
“I’m happy I got the chance to compete this season for the second time and meet new people,” said sophomore Sydney Holzborn, “I can’t wait for next season.”
Sophomore Natalie Mount said, ,”My favorite part of the banquet was when they gave out awards to everyone on the team for getting varsity letters It made me excited for next year, but I’m going to miss the seniors.”
The team announced the new team captains for next season and also honored the current captains at the banquet. The outgoing team captains are senior Haille Bogumil, senior Jessica Greene, junior Sebastian Aguirre, and senior Quinn Lynch. The new captains for the 2018 season are sophomore Emily Massengale, junior Emily Loefgren, Aguirre, and junior Josh Moore.
The current team captains gave gifts to the coaches Santiago and Steinberg to thank them for all of their hard work this season.
The team also took time to honor the seniors who made their final farewell from high school swimming at the banquet. The family of senior Colin Love and freshman Katie Love gave kickboards signed by members of the team as gifts for the seniors to keep as a memory of swimming.
Senior Camden Beverly said, “I’m going to miss swimming for the team after I graduate. It’s been like one big family for the past four years and I’m sad to leave that.”
