LRHS to host robotix competition

Corinna Lunsford – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) –  Many students at LRHS know about the Technology Student Association (TSA) program. However, many may not be aware of the robotics club. The robotics club is based in the school’s technology education (TechEd) classes with no official meeting times. The members use time in class to practice building and creating designs.

The club uses materials from the company VEX Robotics, and competes in events and competitions sponsored by the company. Teams are eligible to make it to state and even national competition.

Robotics team member Chris Miller, senior, said, “It allows you to take any idea that you have and make it able to perform a task. You are able to compete with people who have your same drive, it is such an open community and we all help each other out.”

LRHS is hosting its first competition on Dec. 16, which includes multiple high and middle schools in a variety of competition categories. This event helps determine the teams moving on to states. Anyone interested in joining is welcome. To join, talk to LRHS TechEd teacher and TSA adviser Ben Long in room 415.
