(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Monday, Dec. 4, Lakewood Leaders will travel to Daughtrey Elementary for their annual Project Daughtery event. About 60 volunteers will leave school early during seventh period to spend the afternoon with the Daughtrey students.

One-hundred percent of students at Blanche H. Daughtrey Elementary receive free lunch. LRHS career and college counselor Michelle Todoroff started the program five years ago to support some of the economically disadvantaged students of Manatee County.

Lakewood Leaders will bring Christmas spirit to all of the kindergarten students of Daughtrey. Volunteers will also be playing kickball, decorating cookies, and putting on a play for the kids.

LRHS math teacher and Lakewood Leader adviser Meghan Sugalski shared that volunteers will assemble a goodie-bag each child will receive. Sugalski said, “The goody bag will have socks, tooth brush with paste, toys, coloring books stickers and a candy cane.”

Sophomore Abby Price is excited to volunteer.

“I can’t wait for Dec. 4,” she said.  “I love Christmas and I want to spread the Christmas spirit to all the kids.”
