(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Saturday, Nov. 18, the LRHS Marching Band competed in the Florida Marching Band Championships (FMBC).

Since the beginning of the school year, the LRHS Marching Band has been practicing every week in preparation for the FMBC. Out of 14 qualifying schools, LRHS was ranked 10th place by the judges.

Every school competes in the Semi-finals of the FMBC, however only the top five schools of each division continues to the Finals. Each band is scored by categories such as general effect, music, color guard, percussion, and more. The total of these scores is the final score.

Due to the band’s size, the Marching Mustangs compete in the 4A division against 13 other high schools, including Riverview High School. Even though we are not continuing to the finals, the band performed very well.

“We all had our best run that day. We all did amazing and we all felt really good about our performance,” stated senior trumpet player Michelle Matheson.

Ron Lambert, the band director of the Marching Mustangs, felt similarly about the performance.

“They performed great. We’ve had years where we have placed much higher with performances that were not as strong,” stated Lambert.
