Olivia Grant – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- So you think you can dance at LRHS? While many Mustangs can, even those who can’t think it’s still fun to watch.

One opportunity LRHS offers Mustangs to express themselves through dance is the Silver Stars dance team, who perform at football and basketball games, community outreach opportunities, and compete with other dance teams.

Fine arts teacher and Silver Star dance team supervisor Rebekah Lester said, “The Silver Stars dance team members work great together here at LRHS.  Our team is an award-winning team that attends several competitions each year.”

Dance is a great way to use your passion to express yourself and be a part of the community and a unique team that feels like a family.

LRHS isn’t the only place Mustangs like to dance. Dance companies in the area like Jump dance is where a number of Mustangs attend classes.

Junior Giana Dreger said, “I dance at Jump because it makes me feel like I have purpose. To get all the moves right and in sync with everyone else is really rewarding.”

Dance isn’t only big in schools and in our community, but dance shows have made a major comeback. Longtime fan favorites like “Dancing with The Stars” and “So You think You Can Dance” are going into their 20th and 14th seasons respectively, and the followings are only growing as the shows grow more successful.

Sophomore Kara Smith said, “I watch ‘Dancing with the Stars’ because of the dancers on the show, and because it’s interesting to see the progress they make.”
