(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS is replacing the Edmodo online class communication system with a new product called Schoology.

LRHS assistant principal Jeannie Galindo is responsible for implementing Schoology across campus.

“Schoology will replace each teacher’s webpage on the school website and will be easier,” she said.

Schoology is a learning management system and provides the same services as Edmodo as well as additional activities.  It provides online quiz capabilities and links to other online class products such as Quizlet.

LRHS social science and journalism teacher Tom Honsa is piloting Schoology in his dual enrolled US history classes.

“It’s been a good experience so far,” said Honsa. “I’ve was able to post unit vocabulary terms in Quizlet and then create a question bank of those terms.  Schoology then scrambled and administered the quiz, and then graded it.  It reminds me of the online systems used by colleges.”

Galindo said that with Schoology, students don’t have to go into an in-depth search to find resources as they would with Edmodo.

All teachers are scheduled to begin using Schoology in the second semester.  District officials expect the program to benefit both students and teachers.
