(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Soccer season is here at LRHS, the boys’ varsity soccer team and the girl’s junior varsity (JV) and varsity teams will both have their first preseason games of the year tonight.

The boys’ varsity soccer team will take on the Braden River Pirates at home tonight in a preseason matchup. The game will start at 6:30 p.m.

Also, the girl’s Junior varsity and varsity teams travel to North Port for their first preseason matchup of the season. JV will start at 5 p.m. and varsity will start at 7 p.m.

LRHS junior Travis Freeman said, “I’m hoping we can start off the season well with a win over our rivals even though it’s just a preseason game. We have a fairly young team so hopefully we can mature every game and that starts tonight.”

Junior Alex Thompson agreed with Freeman, “I hope to start the season right after a big season last year. Obviously, the team has changed a lot but the tone of a good season should be set tonight.”

Both the boys and girls teams had impressive seasons last year and look to improve. The boys team won district and regional championships and went all the way to a state championship before their season ended, and the girls team won a district championship before their season ended in the regional quarterfinal.

“We have a lot of young talent on our team and I’m excited to see how we perform in my final season as a Mustang,” said senior varsity player Sydney Wicks.
