(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last Friday, Nov. 3, the varsity football team traveled to Arcadia to face Desoto High School in their final game of the season.

The Mustangs fell to the Bulldogs 10-9. Unfortunately, the Mustangs are not eligible for the playoffs, finishing their season with a 3-5 record.

Head coach Mick Kozcersut said, “We played good in the beginning of the year, but became very inconsistent. But even though we went 3-5, I thought the team took a big step forward on and off the field. This year’s group of seniors got the younger guys prepared for the future.

“Our district has some very good competition. Venice, Braden River, and Palmetto are all great teams and I think our guys played hard, no matter what the scoreboard says,” he added.

Senior Andreas Mendieta said, “It’s been a great year with my brothers and I’m going to miss seeing them every day after school and suffering with them in practice. It stinks that we lost our last game but we played hard to the final whistle.”
