(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This Thursday, Nov. 2, LRHS hosts another blood drive.
LRHS science teacher and adviser Maria Whalen, senior President Katelyn Carothers and a lengthy list of student volunteers, head the blood drive committee.
Students are strongly encouraged to apply during their lunch periods and pick a time to donate.
Junior Lydia Cohn said, “I’ve donated blood before, and I’m not nervous at all. In fact, I am very excited.” She exclaims that it does not hurt at all, and extols the importance of saving lives.
The main goal of the blood committee this month is to get as many people as possible to donate. During the last blood drive, about 400 people applied, but some were turned away as ineligible to donate. Common reasons for being turned away include low iron and low weight.
The blood drive committee’s goal this drive is to receive around 100-200 donors.
